More Technological Capabilities

Are you ready for an optimized API with much faster network load, embedded reports in 3rd party apps and an extended graph analysis? You are in luck, because Pathfinder has it all!

WHAT remains the same in pathfinder:

Despite of all changes we plan with Pathfinder, we know what are your concerns! Moreover, we take care of them so that you are covered!

  1. The LeanIX User Interface remains largely unchanged so that all users will feel comfortable in using Pathfinder.
  2. The existing SSO configuration will be re-used so that all current users can start working with Pathfinder right from the beginning.
  3. Are you using custom reports or integrations? We take care of them and support you during the migration in setting them up for Pathfinder.

What is the Process to follow?

Picture1.png  Follow our official Announcements (March 2017)

We provide first information on the new Pathfinder release, its upcoming features and planned changes. If you are interested in the new technology we are using, we suggest you to visit http://dev.leanix.net/v4.0/docs for further information.

Picture2.png Participate in our Pre-Information (April 2017)

Since not all features in Pathfinder will be available already by tomorrow, we currently plan with three major migration waves: one in May, one in June and the third one will cover July to September. We will determine with you the best fitting migration wave considering any organizational or technical restriction.

Picture3.png Agree on Migration Date (1-2 months before migration)

We will arrange with you a migration date two months prior to our planning. Given the case that we can execute your migration already in May this period is just to one month. If you feel that the migration is too early or too late for you, do not hesitate to contact us and arrange a suitable migration date with you.

Picture4.png Try out your Staging Environment (1-2 months before migration)

Do you have more than 750 Fact Sheets? Then we highly recommend you to test Pathfinder with your own data. We can set up a test environment for you and enable you to play with your data in Pathfinder. Since the Staging Environment is only for the purpose testing Pathfinder, we will shut it down right before the official migration of your operational data to Pathfinder. Make sure at any time: it is just a playground to try out Pathfinder!

Picture5.png    Your individual Migration Date

A few days before the switch to Pathfinder, we will start the technical migration. Be aware that once we start, we have to set your existing environment to a read-only modus to protect you from losing data. The migration itself requires a short downtime of your environment. We will arrange with you the best time slot to start the migration.

Picture6.png    Test & Approve Pathfinder

Having declared the migration as finished and successfully tested your new environment, you can already start using Pathfinder. Inform your users on successful migration. You might also want to provide guidelines on changes that require user actions (e.g. resetting bookmarks).

When do i inform my users?

We understand that changing a software requires a lot of communication. You may want to inform your user base on any progress or simply tell them about new or improved features in Pathfinder? We have good news for you: We will provide a communication package, which will include sample e-mail templates, suggested steps in communication or slides you may share with your users. As a starting point, you can share our Pathfinder Key Note above.

Frequently asked questions

Migration

Do I have to migrate to Pathfinder (LeanIX 4.0) ?
Yes, as announced all customers will be migrated until End of Q3/2017.

When will I be informed about the migration date?
We will inform you at least 2 months ahead of the planned migration. If your migration is planned for May 2017, we will inform you 1 month ahead.

How does the migration work?
The migration is a 1:1 transfer of your old data to the new environment. During this time, LeanIX is not accessible for a few hours. The existing workspace will be set into a read-only modus shortly before the migration.

Do we need your involvement during the migration?
Yes. Although LeanIX will cover most of the migration, we will need your involvement in the following:

  1. Scheduling: The migration will require a short downtime, which is why we ask you to confirm the migration date.
  2. Custom Reports & Integrations: In order to plan a smooth migration, please get in touch. As announced, we will support the migration of custom developments as well.
  3. Communication: While the change in the UI is minor and all features will be there as known, we recommend to involve your users prior to the migration and make sure that the shift occurred without any issue.

Will I need to retrain my users?
No, the user interface will remain largely unchanged.

Can I test pathfinder with my data prior to the migration?
Yes. Depending on the type of your license we provide 1-2 months prior to the planned migration a test environment.

I'm currently in the onboarding process. Does that impact the migration?
No. All adjustments to your current LeanIX will imported into the new LeanIX Pathfinder version.

Does the total count of workspaces impact my migration?
Yes, but only in regard of the timely provision of required workspaces (e.g. if you use workspaces for testing purposes). If you have several workspaces we will align our planning accordingly.

Features & Compatibility

Will all out-of-the-box integrations still work?
Yes, we will take care in particular about Technopedia, Signavio & Confluence. If you require any other integration, please reach out as early as possible.

Will Survey and Metrics still work?
Yes.

We have still IE9 in our organization. Will it be support with LeanIX 4.0?
No. The LeanIX Pathfinder Release ships with a completely refurbished UI, providing a perfect user experience with a state-of-the-art Single Page App. It will support the then-current and the immediately preceding version of any main standard browser that is supported by its vendor. This implies that LeanIX is no longer able to support IE9 with the new release. We highly recommend to use one of the most recent and recommended browser versions (e.g. Chrome 54 or higher, Firefox 50 or higher , IE11 or Microsoft Edge) in order to continue using LeanIX without any restrictions.

Will all reports still work?
Yes. But we have decided make one exception regarding the Interface Map. We have been communicating since March 2016 that we will terminate the support of the Interface Map. We have removed the feature in most LeanIX workspaces already. If you are still using the Interface Map, please bear in mind that the report will not be available after the migration to Pathfinder.

SSO

Are any changes to the existing SSO setup required?
No.

Are you thinking about using SSO?
We highly recommend to contact us to determine a suitable migration scenario for you.

API

Will the existing REST API be still supported with Pathfinder?
As we introduce our new powerful API and the Flexible Data Model, we will deprecate the existing REST API. We will provide an intermediary solution for a limited time. Please get in touch with us.

Where can I find more information on the new API and the used technology?
At the updated Developer Portal.

What is the type of the new API?
There will be two distinct API in the future: one GraphQL based and one traditional Rest API.

Is the new API downward compatible?

No.

Key Benefits

Which technology is used for the new User Interface?
It's a state-of-the-art Single Page App based on Angular 2

What data model adaptions are possible?
Pathfinder allows to add custom attributes on both Fact Sheets and relations, as well as even custom relations and Fact Sheets. The appearance of a Fact Sheet, e.g. the order to attributes, can be customized as well.

Will tags be supported?
Yes, existing tags and custom fields work exactly as today

Can I customize my data model right after migration?
We strongly focus on the successful migration of all customers in 3rd quarter 2017. Please let us know if you plan a data model adaption to arrange a suitable solution for you.

How do the reports work with the new data model?
All currently available reports work with the new data model. If you customize the data model, all reports are available where the required fact sheets are there.

Why is the new API so much faster?
The new API works perfectly with the underlying Graph Database. Further, it allows choosing exactly the attributes you want to query, and it allows querying all attributes and relations in one single call. By this, network overhead and programming complexity is decreased heavily.

Pricing

What does Pathfinder cost?
All usability and technology improvements are covered by your existing plan

How do you charge for data model adaptions?
We will offer two add-ons, Customizing Basis and Customizing Extended. The former allows you to add custom attributes to fact sheets and relations, while the latter furthermore allows to create own relations and fact sheets. Both add-ons are already included in the Ultimate Edition. Please get in touch for commercial options.
